La Loma Community Solar
La Loma Community Solar is a 3.1 MWdc / 2.6 MWac photovoltaic solar system located adjacent to the Kingsbery substation northeast of the intersection of Springdale Road and Airport Boulevard. The project was developed by PowerFin Partners, a utility solar developer headquartered in Downtown Austin. PowerFin owns and operates the solar system, whose energy is purchased by Austin Energy. Austin Energy then sells the energy to its customers who have subscribe to Community Solar.
Quick Facts
- The solar system was constructed in 2017 and began full operation in 2018.
- The solar system has 9,054 Jinko modules; each one has 345 watts of direct current (“DC”) production capacity.
- There are 43 Sungrow 60kW inverters, which convert the DC electricity into alternating current (“AC”), for export onto Austin Energy’s distribution grid.
- Solar panels work by “a solar panel works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity. Solar panels actually comprise many, smaller units called photovoltaic cells. (Photovoltaic simply means they convert sunlight into electricity.) Many cells linked together make up a solar panel.” (Source)
Huerta Solar Comunitaria La Loma
